May He Rest In Peace

This is not a happy post, so if you don’t want to read it, go elsewhere.

Well, we buried my Grandpa today. It was a hard day. The funeral was nice, but I must say that Prayers last night were more emotional. They were more personal. It was my family remembering my Grandpa and passing along good memories. The funeral was strictly Mass conducted by the Priest. I really don’t follow any religion, so I did not get much out of the service.

It was an open casket for Prayers so everyone could say goodbye to Grandpa. It did not look anything like the man I remember. His moustache was gone and he had way too much make-up on. I know they put the make-up on so the body does not appear blue and “deathly.” But they just did not capture Grandpa at all. It definitely disturbed me more than I thought. I had a lot of trouble sleeping last night. I think it’s because I had a great last memory of Grandpa and seeing him so unfamiliar was not the way I wanted to see him last.

I wasn’t super close to my Grandpa, but I will miss him dearly. He was the only grandfather I have ever known and I will treasure the memories I have of him forever.

Carolynne I am so sorry for your loss. I know how it is losing a loved, especially a grandparent. My thoughts go out to you and your family during this hard time.

I totally loved how you linked to IMDB though, haha.

I’m sorry you had a bad experience. What you describe is the reason I’m relieved we don’t have open caskets, I would rather remember the person as he / she was. I like what you write about treasuring memories forever

I’m so sorry about your grandfather, even though you weren’t close, that must still be very difficult.
