So I have decided to further my running “career.” As much as I have bitched about running in the past, I have made a huge decision to increase my running. I am going to run a 30KM race with my uncle in March. This is a huge endeavour for me. Honestly, I dislike running. On the other hand, I really like the way I feel after a run and the sense of accomplishment I have each time I reach a new distance. I was so happy when I completed my half-marathon in the summer. I figure the next step up is this race, right?! It will take place in Ontario (where my uncle lives) and it is called the Around The Bay road race. It is the oldest run in North America, making it even older than the Boston Marathon!
I have never run an official running event/race before and I thought the 30KM would be my first. However, a co-worker has become an avid runner and has been running a few 5KM races. She is running one this coming Saturday and I have decided to run with her!! 5KM is not such a big deal for me as I usually run around 10KM for my normal workout. But I do think that this race will be different because it is an official event. First, I will have to deal with all the other runners, I’ll have to deal with the snowy weather and it will be a completely new course for me. It’s going to be a very good experience and I am super excited. I am nervous as well. I bought a shirt that says the name of the race and the year on it. Plus it’s red, so how could I say no!?
I will recap the race sometime afterward and share my experiences. Sometime soon I will also be posting my training for the 30KM race in March. Lots of running ahead of me for sure. And yes, I still hate every minute of it.
