Yesterday were the Academy Awards. Like every year, Mom and I watched them together and ate Easter chocolate. Yum.
The awards themselves were good, I guess. None of the movies that were nominated were ones that I absolutely loved. Sure, The Help was a beautiful movie and The Artist was unique and creative. I liked War Horse and A Midnight in Paris, but that’s about it. The rest of the movies were just not my thing. The Tree of Life = the WORST movie ever. Ugh. I couldn’t even get through the whole film. I had to stop it after 10 minutes of opera and random earthy images. The story didn’t go anywhere. BORING.
Hugo won a whole bunch of Oscars, but I just don’t know why. I found the story lacking. It was hard to follow and the characters were blah. I didn’t understand it for some parts. Oh well, at least it didn’t take the Best Picture award.
I am so happy that Meryl Streep finally won her 3rd Oscar. It’s been decades, literally. Plus, her role as Margaret Thatcher was pretty accurate. Although The Iron Lady was not my favourite movie, her performance was perfect.
The whole Ryan Seacrest vs. The Dictator thing was crazy. Just another reason I don’t like Sacha Baron Cohen. Seriously. Apparently immediately after the incident he changed out of the Dictator costume and didn’t disturb the awards any further. I don’t care. He should have been thrown out instead of just escorted off the red carpet.
Harry Potter didn’t win any of the 3 Oscars it was nominated for. I totally think it deserved Visual Effects. Stupid Hugo. Oh well. It is still an amazing movie and part of a fantastic series that I will love and watch over and over forever.
I really hope that 2012 has some better movies to be nominated at next year’s Academy Awards. That way I don’t have to pull out my hair while watching all the nominated movies.
