Comic Expo

I went to my first Comic Expo yesterday. It was quite a bit of fun. We initially decided to go because the original cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation were reuniting for the 25th anniversary of the show. Unfortunately Peter and I were too cheap to buy any photos or autographs with the cast. For autographs of the whole cast it was $400. So I have no idea what a photo would have cost!! We love Star Trek and do consider ourselves Trekkies, but we just can’t justifying paying that much money to meet the cast. It wasn’t worth it.

April 28We still went to the show and browsed around at all the booths. I bought two pairs on earrings. One pair is Harry Potter themed and has the sorting hat and a wand. The other pair is a hand giving the Vulcan sign of Live Long and Prosper. You can see my funky new Star Trek earrings here. Peter bought 3 seasons of some Anime that he had been looking for. I didn’t take a whole bunch of pictures of people dressed up, but Peter sure did. He loved seeing people dressed up as his favourite Anime characters. As you can see to the left, I did have to stop two young men who were dressed up as the Ghostbusters. I said to them, “Who you gonna call?” And they politely replied, “Not me!” It was funny and then they were nice enough to pose for a picture with me.

We spent about 3 hours at the Expo, but it just got so busy and we had finished looking around. We decided to leave. Before we left though, we overheard people say that the fire marshall had closed the doors to any new people entering the expo. You can read about the chaos here. It sure made Peter and myself glad that we decided to show up early. I would have been so disappointed if we didn’t get in. There was also rumour at that point that they had stopped selling tickets all together. We left the show and at the train station, someone asked to buy our passes. We had finished with them and so we sold them to the people, for the same price we paid of course. It turned out great for us as we essentially got into the show for free. Not bad at all.

The day was fun and I would definitely go to another comic expo as we had a good time this year. We might even get some costumes together and dress up next year.

I heard it was a bit of a shit show with organizers way overselling the Expo — and it’s awesome that you sold someone else your tickets!

I love when people help each other out like that. Gives me the warm fuzzies.

Wow that’s a lot of money just to meet some folks. I can’t imagine them being that special, despite how much you may love the show.

I want to see a photo of your HP earrings! I love the picture of you and the Ghostbuster boys.

You guys must have had *so* much fun.

That sounds like so much fun! I wish we had expos like that here *sobs*

I don’t know what the standard price for a photo with a celebrity is but that sounds a bit overpriced… Love the photo with the Ghostbusters though XD You should definitely dress up next time!
