Quarter of a Century

Posted on Tuesday July 10, 2012

Today is my 25th birthday. I have made it to a quarter of a century! I really do not feel this old. Not that I can really be considered old, it just seems like high school was yesterday. Time moves fast when you’re not paying attention.

When I was younger, I don’t really remember where I expected to be when I turned 25. I probably had some dreams that I would be a Hollywood starlit, as that is what I most wanted to be back then. Anyway, I thought I would go through some things I am happy to have accomplished as I reach my 25th year:

  • Graduated high school
  • Married the love of my life
  • Bought a house, which we renovated to make our own
  • Found a job where I am happy to be working and making decent money
  • Purchased my own car (on car #2 right now, by choice)
  • Graduated university with 2 certificates in Police Studies and Web Design
  • Lost over 70lbs and have become a healthier person, also have included running in my life
  • Started to put money away for retirement
  • Happy and excited to turn 25 and to be getting older

That list is pretty decent in my opinion, but I still have many things that I want to accomplish. Although, yes, I love my job, I thought I would have a “proper” career by now. I actually thought I would be in the police force, but that idea is not in the horizon anymore. I didn’t expect to have kids by now, but when my 30 birthday rolls around, it is something that should be at the forefront of my mind.

July 10 Anyway my birthday was nice. The only bad part was when I woke up in the middle of the night with a terrible tummy ache. I thought I had food poisoning or something. It wasn’t pleasant. It felt a bit sore this morning, but it’s gotten better throughout the day. I mean who wants to be miserable on their birthday?!

I had to work this morning and my co-workers made me a delicious pineapple upside down cake. We really are a huge family and I enjoy working with every single one of them.

Speaking of family, my uncle, aunt and 4 cousins are in town from Cambridge, Onatrio for the 100th anniversary of the Calgary Stampede. Therefore we had a big old birthday celebration today. I requested burgers with unlimited toppings and my favorite dessert, zucatto. Everything was so delicious. One of my cousins is an almost 3 year old. She is super adorable and we hung out most of the night. A lot of playing and singing of soft kitty occurred :) Everyone was so generous and I received many wonderful gifts.
