Vampire Academy

The Vampire Academy Series

I just finished reading the Vampire Academy series. The series was amazing. I found myself so immersed in the books that it would be the only thing I’d want to do when I got off work. It was very nice to be reading instead of watching movies. I mean I love watching movies, but it was a nice change. Since it was SO nice out this summer, I was able to spend time outside in my gravity chair, reading in the sun. I managed to read the sixth and final book of the series in 2 days. That is practically a record for me as I am an extremely slow reader.

The Vampire Academy series follows main character Rose Hathaway, a half-human, half-vampire known as a dhampir, and the adventures that come upon her at her school for Vampires. She trains as a guardian to help guard the Moroi (good living vampires) from the Strigoi (evil dead vampires). I know it sounds a bit confusing, but it is easy to keep track of when you are reading. Of course love, friendship and death are thrown into the mix, which makes for great reading. The books can be classified as Young Adult Fiction, which basically makes them good for all ages.

Now that I have finished the 6 books in the series, there is a spinoff series called Bloodlines. It follows the life of a minor character that appeared in the VA series. I just started the first book 2 days ago and so I hope that it is almost as good. There are only 2 out of 6 books released, so I have a few years until this series is over. YAY.

I definitely recommend the Vampire Academy series to anyone who is interested in fantasy and vampires. Oh and no, it is NOTHING like the Twilight Series. It’s about a strong willed girl who is not afraid to fight for what she believes in.

While reading the VA series, I stumbled upon the Good Reads website. Now I can keep track of books that I have read and want to read. It’s great to read the reviews of other books and write my own reviews. I look forward to expanding my repertoire of books. If you want to friend me, my profile is here.

I have that entire series plus the first of the Bloodlines series. I love that series so much. I was so glad when I picked up the first book and read it that it wasn’t like Twilight. I’d have had to scream if it had been. :/ (Not a Twilight fan lol).

Haven’t read it… yet – but the author was at a recent Twilight convention in the UK that I went to (yeh, guilty of being a fan!)

I’d also recommend the House of Night series – similar kind of genre but maybe a bit more teen fluff than VA. It mixes wiccan religion with vampires which I found interesting. :)

The second image you’ve posted looks an awful lot like a well known Buffy & Angel promo pic!

Speaking of conventions – there’s going to be a Queer as Folk con in the USA!
