I had a couple firsts yesterday. They weren’t anything crazy like skydiving or something like that, but it’s the little things that I like to get excited about.
I made my first baked fruit pie yesterday. My aunt and I bought a box of peaches from the farmer’s market and so my fridge was overflowing. The peaches wouldn’t last forever and so I had a sudden urge to make a peach pie. My aunt gave me a verbal recipe for peach pie and so with that, I searched the internet for a healthier pie crust. I had all the ingredients on hand and away I went. The crust was simple and the only hard part was rolling it out so that it would make a bottom and top crust. Peeling the peaches was easy as the peaches were at the perfect ripeness. I put everything together and popped it into the oven. The crust wasn’t browning like it should and so I left it in the oven for 1/2 longer than it should have been in there. It still wasn’t turning a nice golden brown, but I didn’t want to leave it in the oven a second longer. As it turns out the pie was cooked to perfection and was delicious. While neither Peter and I are huge pie fans, we enjoyed our pieces. I sent the rest of the pie with Peter to share with work and the pie plate came back clean. Next time I make a pie, I will not try to make it healthy with a whole wheat crust. The crust just didn’t taste right. It has to be made with white flour next time to give it a more rich and flaky flavour. Anyway, it was a cool spur of the moment thing for me to do and I may make another pie one day!
The other first I had was that I completed an entire crossword by myself. Silly, I know, but I have only recently begun to do them. Peter and I have been spending a little time each night doing the crosswords together. It’s a nice way to spend time that doesn’t involve electronics. I am starting to recognize some of the clues and when they repeat or are rephrased, I can get those answers no problem. It sounds stupid to say this, but I feel smarter doing the crossword. I’m learning new words and everything LOL. Yeah, I’m awesome.
