Browsing Netflix

After quite a few weeks of non-usage, I have been diving into Netflix a lot lately. I have been searching for some TV shows that are finished airing so that I can watch the whole series, episode after episode. There are SO many options on Netflix and I love it. The hard part is actually deciding what to watch.

Stargate SG-1Peter and I started watching Stargate SG-1. We just finished season 2 today. I have already seen all of Stargate Atlantis and most of Stargate Universe, but I can’t believe I haven’t actually watched the original SG-1 yet. I really like it! The only bad thing is that I know some of the things that will happen in the series because of Atlantis. Also because Peter has seen SG-1 numerous times and has mentioned a few things in the past. That is one of the things I hate most about watching old TV shows. I HATE knowing anything about them. I love all the little surprises that happen throughout a series. Anyway, I love SG-1 so far and I wish I could watch it faster, but it’s something that Peter and I are watching together. I look forward to when Ben Browder and Claudia Black from Farscape come into the series!!

Buffy the Vampire SlayerI also started watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Joss Whedon has done so many brilliant things and so I really wanted to give Buffy a chance. I just finished season 1 and I am a little on the fence about it. It is very cheesy. The show is supposed to be about vampires and supernatural things, but it’s so corny that it’s not even scary at all. I have found myself rolling my eyes so many times. Sarah Michelle Gellar’s voice is kind of annoying as well. Every time she speaks, all I can think about is her in Cruel Intentions teasing Ryan Phillippe. Also just like with Stargate, I know some things that will happen in the show and it sucks. I knew that Angel was a vampire, so that was no surprise. Now I am anxiously awaiting when Willow starts dating a girl and when/how Spike comes into the show and how come Buffy will date him but not Angel. I know there are some holes in my knowledge, but I would rather be misinformed and then surprised when the events actually unfold. I will try to look past the cheesiness and continue to watch this.

Mad MenThe next show I have kind of, sort of started watching is Mad Men. It is definitely my least favourite out of the 3 shows so far. I don’t even know if I will actually continue to watch it. I am only on episode 8 of season 1, but it just seems like the show is not going anywhere. It is kind of boring actually. The same thing is touched on every episode and it is not keeping my interest. Plus, I really hate the way women were treated in the workplace and at home back in that timeframe. The smoking is driving me crazy as well. Everyone is smoking all the time for almost the whole episode. Ugh. The smoke interferes with the camera and I find it hard to concentrate on what is happening in the episode because I am too distracted with the smoke. Yuck. Someone please tell me that is gets better because I am about to give up on it.

I <3 Buffy. Of course I first watched it when it was on in the 90s, but I rewatched it a couple years ago and I still loved it. It gets better in season 2, but then worse around season 6, until the musical which is just amazing.
Her relationships with Angel and Spike are complicated to say the least. You should also watch Angel which is actually an awful show until the last season when it's just one moment of awesomeness after another.
I assume you've seen firefly already. If you liked that, you should try Farscape, much better than SG-1.

Mad Men doesn't really change all that much from season to season. They stop smoking as much, and characters come and go, but if you don't like it by now, I doubt it'll grow on you.

You need to look past the cheese! The first season is by far the worst, and it will only get better. They find a groove and then the characters really start to develop!

I have no opinions on the other two shows, but I had to jump into the comments and plead with you to continue on the Buffy path 😉

I like watching old finished shows too, it’s nice to have a complete story and not have to wait several months between seasons.

They are actually showing Stargate SG-1 on TV here right now. I’ve never watched it, but my boyfriend loves it so I’m familiar with the story. Might have to give it a shot after all if it’s on Netflix. 🙂

And don’t talk bad about Buffy, haha! 😉 No but really, I know it’s low budget and cheesy but that’s half the charm. And season 1 is a bit shaky, it gets better in season 2. Don’t give up on her just yet!

I was thinking of trying Buffy the Vampire Slayer because I know a lot of people who like it. Now I question if I’d like it if it’s that cheesy, haha. I haven’t seen Stargate or Mad Men though.

I just stopped my Netflix subscription actually! I’ll probably get back on it later. I just haven’t been using it lately. I’ve heard the Netflix exclusive shows are good though.

Two of my favourite shows: Buffy (my favourite show EVER!) & SG1.

Season 1 & 2 of Buffy tend to be the cheesiest, it’s full of teenage fluff, but it’s good fluff. 🙂 – If you’re waiting on Spike, he’ll pop up in seasons 2 but Willow and Tara aren’t until season 4. So, you have a while yet. I hope you keep watching.

SG-1!!!!! <3 I love all the stargates 🙂 I did watch Stargate Universe before I watched SG-1 and Atlantis so I was majorly confused until I had caught myself up with everything. Have you seen the movie? It explains a lot more of what happens in the first episode of SG-1 and why they go back to get Daniel.

I was so into Buffy when it was on tv! I also watched Angel hehe. I have all of them on DVD and I re-watch them every few years because I'm a dork 😛

Never seen Mad Men but I never really had the urge to /shrug
