NaBloPoMo 2013: Day 20 – Does it really take that long?

I am a bit moody today, so I am going to complain a bit in this post. Fair warning.

Mechanic I made an appointment at my local mechanic to get my snow tires put on my car. I made the appointment over 2 weeks ago and today was the first day they had an opening. I ended up dropping the car off yesterday around 2:30pm because I didn’t want to have to get up early this morning and take the car in. I waited patiently all day today to hear from the mechanic. After all, how long did it really take to put snow tires, that are already on a rim, onto a car?! An hour, maybe? I waited and waited and I didn’t hear anything all day. By 4:30pm (an hour before the garage closed for the night) I finally decided to call and find out what was happening with my car. After all, they had had my car for over 24 hours. They answered and stated that my car was indeed ready. As it should have been hours ago, in my opinion. I was really annoyed that they hadn’t called me. I would have been there to pick up my car way earlier rather than having to fight with rush hour traffic later. It was really annoying.

I try to be loyal to this certain mechanic, as my whole family has gone to them for years, but I am definitely loosing patience with them. I believe they are very honest and I trust their work 100%. However, their customer service definitely needs work. Plus, they smoke inside their building and attached garages, which is illegal in Calgary. I go in to pay for my car and come out stinking of smoke. Not cool. I have actually considered reporting them to bylaw services, but I don’t want to cause a ruckus. After today though, I don’t really know if I care anymore.

As much as I hate bringing my car to a dealership to have any work done, I think I might go there for simple things like changing tires from now on. I can usually be booked in for an appointment within a couple days (if not the next day) and the actual appointment takes no time at all. I can drop off my car and if I want to stay, there is a place to sit and wait for it. Usually an hour passes and I am driving away with the work complete. It’s not that hard. I suppose dealerships have way more staff and can get the work done much faster. I also love the fact that they have a courtesy shuttle as well.

I know I probably sound like and impatient and immature person for complaining like this. Ah well, it was just one of those days!
