NaBloPoMo 2013: Day 21 – Mani/Pedi

I went for a manicure and pedicure this morning. It was pretty disappointing. Reason being is that I think I was spoiled by my last spa appointment. In February, my Mom, Grandma, Aunt, Uncle and I all went for manicures and pedicures. We went to Oasis Spa and it was almost as if we stepped into heaven. As it was a spa, we had to get out of our normal clothes and dressed in beautiful fluffy bath robes. While we waited for our appointments, we sat in the waiting room, which was dimly lit and had beverages and fruit to snack on. There were plush couches and the ambiance of the room was so relaxing. There was also a meditation room if we wanted somewhere a little more zen. Then we all got to sit in our massager chairs while our nails were attended to. Even the foot bath had massage jets in it. Seriously, it was bliss.

The place I went to today was on the other end of the spectrum from Oasis. It was basically a hole in the wall. It was super cluttered with too many things. There was barely any room to move around. The whole place kind of smelled of cigarette smoke and I was unsure how clean it was. I was taken to a back room and in a corner was a chair with a bucket of water in front of it. I nearly turned around and left. The only reason I stayed was because I didn’t have to pay for the mani/pedi. My Mom had given me the groupon because it was going to expire next week and she was unable to use it.

The lady doing my nails was chatting incessantly and it really started to get on my nerves. I wanted to try my best to relax (under the circumstances) but she just kept gabbing. I don’t know why I thought it was so annoying, but it could have been because I was so turned off by my surroundings. Also, she kept telling me about upcoming promotions and specials. Going on and on about gift certificates for Christmas and stuff. I had to fill out a form when I got there and I purposely did not put my email on the list. I don’t want to receive stuff like that. The lady kept asking for my email and saying she’ll send me promotions. NO THANK YOU! Just do my nails and let me go free, please!

I didn’t even wait long enough for my nails to try and they ended up smudging as I put on my socks, boots and coat. I know I should have given a damn, but I really didn’t. I just wanted to get the hell out of there.

Anyway, I don’t think I will go to any other place besides Oasis. Yes, it is super expensive, but you get what you pay for. I will just keep my eyes open for a groupon and indulge only once in awhile!!
