About Time

About TimeI went to see About Time with my friend on Saturday. The movie was not what I expected. To tell the truth, I did’t really know much about the movie beforehand. I knew that it was from the creator of Love Actually and my favourite movie, Notting Hill, so I was sold on it from the first moment. It had to be some kind of feel good romantic movie, right?!

The movie revolved around a young man who found out that he could travel back through time to any point in his life. So he travelled back every so often to change events that had occurred in his life. He met a girl and they fell in love and typical romantic movie things happened.

However, the time travel thing kept putting me on the edge of my seat. I was afraid that every time he went back in time, his perfect little life would be screwed up. After all, movie makers always like the throw in some kind of tragedy into the mix. Honestly, I think I’ve watched too many Nicholas Sparks movies because I was sure something terrible was going to occur and there wouldn’t be a happy ending. I love happy endings. I hate leaving the movie theatre sad and depressed. Luckily, this was no Nicholas Sparks movie, thank goodness. I won’t get into too much detail, but needless to say, it was a happier ending.

There were some slow parts of the movie, but everything seemed to come together in the end. Yes, there were definitely some inconsistencies with the time travel thing, but to me, it wasn’t that important. I still got the gist of the story and enjoyed the outcome.

This movie really reminded me of Notting Hill. I know every line and expression from that movie and I could definitely see some of the similarities. The main character, played by Domhnall Gleeson (who was Bill Weasley in Harry Potter), had very similar mannerisms to Hugh Grant from Notting Hill. It was interesting to see. I still prefer Notting Hill 1000x more than this movie, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

Although some people have criticized Rachel McAdams because of some of her recent films, I still think she is a great actress. He did very well in this movie and whatever people say, she is a great actress.

About Time is a pretty good movie and I’d recommend catching it on Netflix when it is released!

Interesting! I didn’t go to the cinema to see this because I was afraid of falling asleep.

Sounds alright though. I will have a look on Netflix later tonight πŸ™‚

I LOVED About Time! I love Rachel McAdams, I loved how they were all British, I loved his character, I loved the family… ugh it was magical. But like you, I kept imagining something AWFUL happening. I was so scared for 1/2 of the movie because I was like “NO! Something bad is going to happen!” lol

I’ve kind of wanted to see it but It’s definitely not something my husband would like so I probably wont get to see it until it’s on DVD. I LOVE Notting Hill!

Ooh, I love Notting Hill. And Love Actually is like one of my all time favourite movies! If About Time is anything at all like those movies I’m sure I’d enjoy it πŸ™‚
