Last year, I wrote a year in review post about all the events that happened in 2012. I think I am going to turn it into a tradition and so here is my year in review post for 2013. I don’t really think my life is super interesting to start off with, but this year seemed more boring than last year for some reason.
I travelled to Las Vegas for the second time with some friends. The first time I went, I swore I would never go back. Despite the fact that the first time I was there was for a friend’s wedding (which was really quite amazing), I didn’t have a great time with the person I was sharing my room and time with. She put a big damper on my experience. So I was anxious to go back and try again. Anyway, this time was a completely different and a totally FUN trip. I can’t wait to go back again soon!!
I finally got to see Les Misérables and fell totally in love. It has been on my music playlist hundreds of times since then.
Peter and I went on an epic date night and we saw Spamalot together. It was so nice to be able to go out to the theatre together. We laughed out butts off and enjoyed the night immensely.
I think I made a decision this month that I probably wouldn’t be dedicating so much time to trying to see all the Oscar nominated films any more. I was so disappointed (again) in most of the films that were nominated from 2012. I like happy movies that aren’t so disturbing and most of them just didn’t meet my criteria.
My Aunt and Uncle came to town and I was able to slip in a couple runs with them. Plus, we pampered ourselves and all got pedicures (even my Uncle)! He got different coloured nails for every toe for his granddaughter back home.
I started taking a 12 week course called the Citizen’s Police Academy. Although I haven’t blogged about it yet (maybe sometime in the new year haha), it was an amazing course and I learned so much about the Calgary Police Service. It also helped me decide most definitely that I didn’t want to become a police officer. This month definitely started a busy three months! Peter also started courses for his private pilot’s license. We only saw each other for more than a minute maybe a couple days a week to be honest. It was crazy.
Peter and I attended our second Comic Expo together. So fun. It wasn’t quite as crazy as last year because I think they were more prepared for the amount of people attending. I saw Nathan Fillion (from afar) and Wil Wheaton waved at me. My life was complete. Haha. Weird Al Yankovic also had a concert to open the Expo and it was just as great as the other 3 concerts of his that I’ve been to. He is such an entertaining performer.
I ordered Netflix this month and of course it has changed my life. Not a day goes by where Peter or I don’t watch something on Netflix. There are a great variety of Movies and TV Shows to watch and seriously not enough time in the day.
My Mom and I took an impromptu trip to Great Falls, Montana for a quick weekend of shopping. Normally we go in December, but there was too much snow the previous December to go. This was our make up trip. We bought a lot of interesting things and spent a little too much money. However, we had a great time and ate lots of delicious food.
I went to Toronto with my Mom. She had a conference and I got to tag along. I spent most of the time shopping and walking around the city. We also spend a few days at my Aunt and Uncle’s house in Cambridge. It was so nice to just get away for a little bit. The most exciting part of the trip was seeing the Book of Mormon musical!! I had wanted to see it for a long long time and it did not disappoint. There is a rumour that it could come to Calgary some time in 2014. I am keeping my fingers crossed to see it again.
Calgary was struck with a horrific flood in late June. It has changed our city forever. We stayed in state of emergency for weeks. The clean up took months and there are many businesses that will never open again. Luckily, our home was safe and sound, but not everyone was that lucky.
Calgary gets to host actual touring broadway shows about 3 times a year. Mom and I started off July by getting front row tickets to see Les Misérables. It was even better than I expected and I felt so many different emotions coming out of the show. It is definitely in my top 5 shows of all time.
I took a giant leap this month and went to my first outdoor camping concert excursion. I attended the Craven Country Jamboree with some friends and all I can say is that it was definitely an experience. I only had an okay time. I definitely will not be doing anything of the sort again. Sure, the music was great, but everything else made for a negative experience.
My Mom, Dad, Peter and I went on our annual camping trip to Cranbrook, BC. Unlike the past 5 years, my Mom and I did not take a day trip to the states for shopping. Instead we cross stitched and listened to the Hunger Games on audiobook the whole week. The weather was 30+ every day and I was incomplete heaven. There was no rain and the week was glorious. Please let the weather be like this every year!
Most of this month was dedicated to work. Our manager was away for almost 3 weeks and as I am a supervisor, I picked up some of the banking duties while he was gone. I really do enjoy what I do and it was great to be able to move up (even if it was temporarily) a little bit at work.
We found out this month that we would be spending 2 weeks in Florida in October to celebrate Peter’s parents 40th anniversary. It would also be our Christmas gifts and celebrations.
Peter and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary. I can’t believe that we have been married for so many blissful years. Can’t wait to see what the future brings.
We took a day trip up to Edmonton to attend our second Comic Expo of the year. How lucky are we that we can do two of these nerdy things in one year!! As usual, we didn’t want to pay for any autographs or photos, but it was still awesome wandering around and seeing everyone’s costumes.
We had an impromptu surprise birthday party for my Dad. He turns 65 in January and we wanted to have this party well in advance so that he wouldn’t expect it for a second. It was a complete surprise and the whole party went off without a hitch. One of my Uncles was able to come from out of town, which was another surprise for my Dad.
Then it was finally time for Peter and I to embark on our second trip to Florida! This time it wasn’t on our dime either. Peter’s Parents paid for the whole family to fly down and spend a week with them in Cape Coral. It was a 2 week vacation, but only the first week was spend with the in-laws. Honestly, it was so great to spend so much time with them and I really got to know everyone pretty well. Then everyone flew home and Peter and I stayed in Orlando for a week. We wanted to celebrate our 5th anniversary and what better way to do it than in Disney World?!
It was the second year that I participated in NaBloPoMo to great success. I posted every day and had a lot of fun doing it. I will probably turn it into something I do every year
Catching Fire came out and I went to see it opening day with my friend. I liked it much better than the first Hunger Games movie. The series really is fantastic. I am looking forward to the next two movies.
This month came and left in a minute, I swear. We had two cousins in town for a couple weeks and it was crazy with with family things. I enjoyed being able to spend some one on one time with my cousin. She was here doing a practicum for her PhD. We probably had 6 family dinners in less than 2 weeks. It was crazy, but very enjoyable. Then with Christmas preparations, the month was gone.
I made a decision to start my weight loss journey again come the new year and I can hopefully stick with it this time!
So that was 2013 in short form. Sort of. I realize I didn’t blog throughout the year about some things that I wanted to. I am kind of disappointed. I hope to keep up to date in 2014 and blog about everything in my life. Haha, even if I am the only one reading it!
