Peter and I finally finished watching Star Trek: The Original Series at the beginning of September. We’ve been watching it together for the last 3 years. I really really disliked it so we didn’t watch it very fast, obviously. I couldn’t stand the horrible over acting and boring storylines. Plus, tv episodes were so much longer back in the 60s. However, I knew that as soon as we finished TOS, we could start The Next Generation!! So I made us speed through the last little bit to move on!
We started TNG September 9th and we’ve been zooming through it, as I knew we would. It is really 1000x better than TOS. I love love love it. This is my second time watching the series and I love it even more this time around. The first time I was just starting to get into the Star Trek world. Now that I am a self proclaimed Trekkie, I enjoy the episodes a lot more this time.
We started season 5 today and I have definitely decided that Data is my favourite main character. He is Peter’s favourite as well. However, my actual favourite character to see on screen is the transporter chief, Miles O’Brien. He’s not a huge character but I’ve been interested in his development from the beginning. When we watched TNG for the first time many years ago, I related to O’Brien right away because I had seen him previously in Stargate Atlantis. He’s a great character.
When we started TNG in September, we thought that it would keep us going until well after the baby is born. Now that we are going so fast, I keep joking with Peter that we are going to finish the series even before I go into labour. We have 3 seasons left, so let’s see if we can make the series last a little bit longer! It’s just so easy to watch 3 episodes or more a night. Yup, life consists of work, food, Star Trek and sleep. It’s marvellous.
