Bad night and new toys

It was a tough night in our household last night. I went out to dinner with a friend and left Ezri with Peter. It was only the second time I left her for a period longer than an hour. It did not go well. She screamed and cried for Peter almost the whole time. She wouldn’t take the bottle and all of our usual tricks for calming her down weren’t working. I don’t know what was wrong with her.

So my friend and I quickly finished our meal and raced home. Ezri was in such a state. She was shaking because she was so worked up. I felt so bad for her and especially for Peter. They were both very upset, so of course I got upset. It took a few minutes to actually calm her down enough to realize I was home and she could nurse. The poor girl. I truly hope that infant brains do not remember nights like those. She seems back to normal this morning. I gave her extra cuddles and we are going at her pace today. If she wants to nurse and cuddle all day, then so be it.

However, she needs to learn eventually that I can’t always be around. She has to be comfortable with other people. I know I am with her all day and so she has become accustomed to always having me around, but it is not practical for her whole life. I’m sure it will get easier as the months go by but it really doesn’t make me want to leave her ever again. Imagine how Peter feels as well?! He is her father and loves her to a million pieces, but he felt so helpless last night. It was a sad situation all around.

On a better note, Peter and I bought a new washer and dryer set during the boxing week specials! The ones that we had were very old and not efficient in the least. The washer was top loading and used so much water. The clothes came out pretty wet even after spinning. For the dryer, it took 2 cycles and almost 3 hours to dry one load of laundry. It was horrible. Peter got a bonus from work and so we decided to splurge and treat ourselves to a couple new toys.

I’ve always had my eye on RED front loading units. We did our research and decided to spend the extra money to get a red set!

Pretty fancy, eh?! I love them. They are super fast and very quiet compared to the old ones. They even sing a little song when they are done. It’s very cute. I definitely have to read the owner’s manual and make sure I take advantage of all the features.

Aww 🙁 I hope in the next few months you guys can get her used to not having you around for short periods of time. I think it’s just something she has to get used to? I have no idea since I don’t have kids.

Love the new washer/dryer set!! I love red 🙂

Oh no, poor Ezri! And poor Peter. And you. Hopefully it’ll get better as she grows older. I guess every little change can be confusing and scary when you’re so very small and new to the world.

And I actually said “ooh, nice” out loud at the washer/dryer. I don’t think I’ve ever said that about domestic appliances before… They’re gorgeous!

Owen used to freak when I wasn’t home and wasn’t a bottle fan either, but now he’s ok. Still happy when I come home from work though 🙂 congrats on the new washer/dryer. Totally worth the money, especially with the little one

Oh no, sorry that your dinner out didn’t go well because Ezri missed you 🙁 That sounds really rough for both her and Peter. Hopefully, it won’t take her too long to become accustomed to being away from you for a longer period of time.

The new washer and dryer look really nice! Love the red color, and the time and water savings are probably worth the extra money!
