Cable anyone?

Last week our internet service provider called and offered us a home bundle package. We usually always say no to these sales pitches because they just don’t strike our interest. However, the ISP must have caught me on a good day because I was suckered in. They offered a pretty good deal. For $5 more than what we were currently paying for only internet, they offered a home phone line, basic cable and a faster internet speed. The offer was good for 6 months and then the price would increase afterward.

I thought it was a pretty good deal. Plus, 6 months is a fair amount of time to try a new product out! Also, our ISP has done away with their 30 day cancellation notice. So if we want to, we can cancel the day before 6 months is up with no penalty. That was my initial plan because I seriously didn’t believe we would want to keep the cable or phone.

However now that we’ve had the cable for a week, I seriously don’t know if I’ll want to give it up. I’ve literally sat on the couch for the past week watching TV. Although really, I’m only watching the food network. Oh and a show called border security. And Dragons Den and Rachel Ray. Ugh. Okay I need a life. I even talked our ISP into providing us with a free PVR so we can record shows. So I’m recording so many and am able to skip all the commercials. That’s one of the reasons I hate cable is because of the commercials. Problem solved!!!

The home phone however is utterly useless. We are so used to using our cell phones for everything that we don’t need the land line. I’ve given the number to my Mom and that’s about it. Haha. It might come in handy if we have to call long distance anywhere, but that does not happen very often. So it will definitely go at the end of the 6 months.

I might eventually get tired of watching the food network, but for now I love it!! I feel sorry for our poor Netflix account. No actually, Peter still watches it everyday so no worries!

I love having a DVR! It’s been so handy for series that we follow. We forget to check when new seasons start, but the DVR automatically records them when they come back on. And I agree, skipping commercials is great 😀 I’ve thought about giving up cable before, but it’s nice to just have and watch whatever is on. I watch Food Network a lot too!

We have no use for a home phone either since we use our cell phones all the time. Cable companies keep trying to sell us the phone line, but we always say we don’t want it =/

I miss being able to record and skip commercials! I just haven’t been bothered to pay for it since I only watch two series. I’d rather use Netflix and HBO since I’m actually paying for it 🙂

The home phone would be useless for me as well. My parents need one for their internet, but only their 90-year old neighbor actually calls them on that line, My parents think it’s great, they always know it’s him and can choose not to pick up if they’re busy, haha 😀

We recently got cable as well. I wish I could say it was that cheap. We were paying $45 for internet alone and they offered us 3 months of internet + cable for $99 (goes up to like $136 after) and I thought that was a good deal…

We have a DVR as well and I love love love it! Since most of the shows I wanna watch are on when I am at work the DVR is great.

I love watching border security was well and just about anything on TLC and Animal Planet. Oh and AFV!

Five extra dollars a month for six months? That’s a pretty good deal!

We use netflix and hulu but are considering cable.

I love having cable but I’m not really sure I’m too fond of my provider anymore. I love the channels cable offers but really, I’m a movie type of person and I’m definitely not okay with having to pay money just to watch a movie all of the time. I don’t have any of the premium channels and altogether my triple bundle (phone + internet + cable) is always over $140. I’m considering dropping my phone line and getting some premium channels, but I’ll have to see.
