How can it be that you are already 8 months old? I am watching our new lives fly by so fast. I don’t even know what to do to make it slow down. You are growing up too fast. It’s hard on mommy’s heart some days. But it’s also a very joyous thing to see you advancing and discovering. You are SO curious about everything. Your little eyes are always wondering looking for the next thing you can play with and put in your mouth.
So this month saw 2 MAJOR firsts. You can now sit up on your own with no problems. You can go from lying down on your back, to rolling over to your stomach, to up on your knees to a proper sitting position. If I put you down in a sitting position, you usually stay there and don’t fall over. YAY!
The second major milestone is that you have started to crawl!! I don’t mean pulling yourself along on your stomach, I mean actually crawling. It took about a week for you to get it down pat, but now you are zooming all over. It’s amazing how fast you picked up on it. Last month I was astonished that you could get yourself up onto your knees and now you are trying to figure out how to get up onto your feet! You haven’t quite stood up by yourself yet, but you are coming very close. When Daddy and I stand you on your feet and have you hold onto the table, it doesn’t last long. You usually find something to play with and let go of the table. So cute.
Naked time has turned into something different these days. Every night, right before your bath, you get to have naked time. We lay you on some towels to play while we draw your bath. It’s so that you get to air out without a diaper on for a little bit. Well, now that you can crawl, you no longer like to stay on the towels. It’s amazing what you choose to do now. You crawl from the towels all the way into the bathroom where your bath will be. It is so remarkable that you know the routine and that you are helping your Dad and I out by coming to the bath. It’s amazing!!
You celebrated your first Canada day!! I was so happy to be able to dress you up in all sorts of Canadian stuff. Your outfit was the first of many Canadian themed clothing I have in store for you!! Lucky girl.
You still don’t want anything to do with food that isn’t a puree. The chunkiness is just not your thing. Maybe you have a really sensitive gag reflex. Anyway, it gives me a little bit of anxiety to watch you gag, so I am fine with your purees for now. You do LOVE your baby cereals. We usually mix in some fruit or vegetable and sometimes yogurt or custard as well. I am proud to say you have almost mastered a spoon. It is your preferred way to eat. When you see a spoon, you know exactly what to do. We tried to give you some mashed potatoes off our finger and you ate a little bit. But as soon as we put some onto a spoon, you gobbled it up. You help us by holding the spoon as well, usually with both hands. LOL. Daddy is usually the one who feeds you your solids every night and he always sings you the “Thank you, you’re welcome, more please” song. I tried to sing it to you while feeding you your solids and you didn’t want to hear it from anyone but Daddy.
You went to your first Calgary Stampede breakfast last week. Although, you didn’t have any pancakes (textures, remember?!) you still loved looking around at all the people. I think the music was a bit too loud for you, but you didn’t complain. We will be taking you down to the Stampede Grounds tomorrow! I even have a cute little cowgirl outfit for you to wear!
You’ve sort of been able to do this part of the way for awhile, but this month you really mastered it. You know how to find your soother and put it directly into your mouth. You used to struggle finding which end to put in, but you know now which way is correct. I also try to no longer stick it in your mouth for you, I just hold it out and you grab it and put it in yourself. This is all done during the day of course. You can’t seem to do it in the middle of the night. Once in a while, you will find it in the crib, but not usually.
You weighed in today at 13lbs 6oz! That’s a half pound gain in two weeks. Good girl. Still way below the percentile curve, but growing every single week. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you’re just petite! Although, we moved you up to size 2 diapers this month! It’s just proof that you are getting bigger
You finished your swimming lessons! Both you and I had an absolute blast I look forward to enrolling you again in the fall. You also went to the beach for the very first time with your friend Aiden! I was surprised that you didn’t even eat any sand! You thought the water was a bit too cold. You are used to the nice warm baby pool from your lessons. We will have to slowly ease you in.
You finally met your Uncle and Auntie who came to visit from Toronto!! They were so excited to finally meet their first little niece You cried a little bit at first because you are a silly girl, but you soon warmed up! I hope you get to visit them in Toronto one day too!
I am very excited for the new few firsts that are going to come this month!! Please keep growing and amazing us each day.
Love your Mommy
