Letter to Jadzia: 3 months old

3 months old

Dear Jadzia,

Three months old? How can that be possible baby girl?! The time has flown by so fast. You are officially out of the newborn category.

Well you are growing like a weed. I weighed you today and you weighed in at 11lbs 3oz. Such a good healthy growing girl. You are wearing 3 month outfits but I think you might be getting a bit too long for them! I’ll have to get out the bigger clothes soon. As much as I want you to grow up, I have trouble saying goodbye to my little baby. It gets easier as time goes by, but sometimes I just want it to slow down.

Bottles and soothers are still not your friend. In fact, they seem to be your enemy. Any progress you’ve made with them in the past few months seems to be gone. It’s as if you’ve regressed completely. I think your Grandma got you to take a suck or two on a bottle last week, but you sure hated it. You scream and cry anytime a soother or bottle goes into your mouth. You are a boob girl through and through. It’s tough for your Daddy because he wants so much to be able to calm and feed you. We’re going to keep trying though. Can’t give up and you will hopefully learn to love the ease of a bottle and maybe even the joy of a soother.

You had your first round of immunizations this month. You didn’t like the needles very much and you went all crying red tomato faced for a few minutes afterward. You recovered quickly though and luckily, you didn’t have any side effects.

Your little tear ducts started producing tears this month. So now when you cry, I have to see the tiny little droplets roll down your face. So sad to see your watery eyes.

One of the new things you do is lay on your playmat. It’s bright and colourful and it has a mirror on it. You lay there for quite awhile looking up at yourself in it. There are dangly toys on it too that I swear you like to bat with your hands. You can’t grasp them yet, but you’re definitely exploring your surroundings and feeling out what is around you.

You are still sleeping in our room, but you now sleep in your cradle instead of the bassinet and you seem to be doing pretty well. It was tentative at first because your Daddy and I realized that you had never slept on a flat surface. We panicked a little because we would like to move you to your crib soon and you need to be able to be flat in there. Currently, in the cradle, we have some rolled up receiving blankets on either side of you so that you are still somewhat nestled. We are hoping to be able to remove them soon. I know I said above that you are no longer classified as a newborn, but you sure still sleep and eat like one. Meaning you are up 2-5 times per night to eat, depending. We have had a couple 4 hour stretches but you most often go about 3 hours between feeds. It’s tough but I know it won’t last forever.

You’ve started to giggle and it’s so so so adorable. You love when anyone snuggles into your belly or neck and wiggles around. It’s like an instant mood booster because you always giggle. I am looking forward to some full out belly laughs soon.

You joined your Grandma and I for a little Oscars party this month. You spent most of the time sleeping, but it was fun to have our 3 generations together for a night. We left your sister at home with Daddy and so it was some nice one on one time with you!

You are a Mama’s girl 100%. You often don’t like to be out of my sight. It’s sad for other people because you cry for them, but it makes my heart warm and fuzzy. Still hoping you’ll warm up to other people soon though.

You are definitely more aware and have a lot more open awake times than the previous month. I can see you are itching to start playing and not miss out on what’s going on in the world.

I am looking forward to seeing you continue to grow and smile and giggle and everything.

LOVE YOU SO MUCH

Your Mommy

These little letters to your girls are so adorable. I can’t wait until I’m able to know every little thing about my little one and detail it back to them like you do.

You’re such a good and attentive mom and I am definitely taking notes for my own little ones. =)
