Letter to Jadzia: 8 months old

Jadzia 8 months old

Jadzia! You are 8 months old! Wow, I am so astonished at how big you are getting. You are really developing a little personality. It’s no secret that you’re forever a mama’s girl. You are starting to go through a bit of a “making strange” phase. You usually get upset if someone you don’t know is holding you. There are only a select few that you will usually not cry for, but everyone else is fair game. You start by sticking your little bottom lip out and then the tears soon follow. If I take you back from whomever is holding you, you turn to look at them and just smile. It’s as if you’re saying, “Haha, my Mommy is holding me now.” I don’t mean to laugh at it, but it’s amazing how smart you are. I do hope this phase passes soon because I everyone to hold you and love you like I do!

The biggest change this month has been food! YOU LOVE IT!! You will eat absolutely anything that is given to you. It is such a pleasure to feed you because you eat and eat. We give you lots of rice cereal mixed with puréed baby pouches and you also get plenty tiny chunks of food. You don’t have any teeth yet but I’m sure you’ll love to chew as soon as they pop up. When we are eating and you are not, you let your voice heard by screeching and whining at us until you get some food as well. It’s super cute how excited you get when we put your into your high chair. You are a very noisy eater as well. You love to “mmm mmm mmm” as you are processing the food in your mouth. It’s hilarious to witness! I know you are my daughter for sure because of your love of food! Oh and you got to taste your first ice cream this month! Lucky lucky!

You went to your first Calgary Stampede this month. Although, to be honest, you didn’t see too much of it. It was raining and quite a gloomy day so we stayed inside and only looked at a 1/4 of what the Stampede had to offer. I am sure next year will be better and you might even get to go on a ride or two!

This month you actually had a bit of a viral infection called Roseola. It caused a fever for about 3 days and then was followed by a full body rash for another couple days. We went to the doctor and were told that it would go away on it’s own so you didn’t need any medication. In the end, you survived it so well. You were irritable while you had the fever, but the rash didn’t bother you at all. Apparently Roseola can be quite common in babies. I am glad that you have fully recovered. Mommy doesn’t like when you are sick :(

You are sitting up so well now. In fact, it is your preferred position. You used to love rolling all over the living room, but now you just like to sit and reach for toys (or anything else) that you can see around you. Yes, you still fall over sometimes so I have to make sure I am aware of what’s around you incase you do fall. You also look like you are about to crawl soon. You lay on your belly and your legs and arms flail, but you just haven’t figured out how to actually get up on your knees and go. I am sure it will come soon and then there will be no stopping you.

You’ve started to scream and screech A LOT. It’s mostly when you are upset and sometimes I can’t believe how such loud noises can come out of someone so small!!

You LOVE your sister. You watch her and just giggle and giggle. It is a delight to see you both get along so well. I can’t wait to see what kind of trouble you two get into when you are mobile!

Sleep is still going pretty well. You are usually up 2 or 3 times between 730pm-8am and your first wake up isn’t usually until 3am. So that’s a good 7+ hour stretch at the beginning of the night! I am very happy with that. You nap 2-3 times per day, depending on what time you get up in the morning. I am still so happy we invested in a sleep expert to help you get some better sleep habits. Keep it up girl!

Please keep surprising me because I LOVE to watch you grow and learn every single day.

Love you to the moon and back,

Your Mommy
