This week I bundled the girls up in their snow gear and met a friend and her kids at the zoo. It was a pretty chilly morning (-10C), so we didn’t stay too long, however, the time we did spend there was amazing. There was hardly any other people visiting the zoo (due to the cold, I’m sure) and so we basically had the place to ourselves. All of the animals were out and about too. It was so wonderful. It was really great that we could stand and watch the animals and not worry about moving on to let the next people view them. It definitely set the bar high and it will be hard to visit again when it’s busy!
When we were watching the lions, one of them actually turned his backside to us and attempted to spray us. It was crazy. Luckily, the kids were not standing right there or else they may have been hit. Then the lions decided to nuzzle and lick each other. It was too cute and I only caught the tail end of it on video.
It must have been feeding time for the penguins because they were trying to nibble at the kids through the glass. It was so funny.
The hippos were moving around and even swimming too. Usually they are sleeping whenever we visit, so it was a nice change.
I will definitely be visiting the zoo again this winter because the lack of people is incentive enough. As long as we bundle up in warm clothes, we can handle anything!
